And there you have it, everyone. Told you something big was coming. What does the arrival of this new planet mean for Sophia's people and for mankind? Will Martinez discover that his wife is non-terrestrial and that is son is a hybrid? What is the meaning of the scroll and how does it relate to Dempsey and to Sean? (For some clues on that, check out Dempsey's Office) Will Sean find a way to save Leila and his unborn child from a slow and painful death? What will happen to Sophia and to Jarvis?

What will happen to our world? This latest episode was just the beginning -- a turning point that will create an entirely new world order as the sudden appearance of a new planet in our sky exposes the existence of non-terrestrials to the entire world. How will Martinez handle this new crisis -- and how will he deal with the fallout of the lies and machinations he condoned to hide Inostranka and its prisoners?

As Simon briefly hinted at, The Event is a synchronous species-wide reproductive event, a mystical evolutionary step that has been predicted in his people's sacred scrolls. Simon also made it clear to Sean that mankind would not survive it. So what does it all mean for our characters and for humanity in general? The planet's arrival - one of the foretold signs from the scrolls - confirms that The Event is more than a religious myth from an extra-terrestrial civilization. It is real - and it's coming.

We made a promise to you when the show started that we wouldn't leave you hanging, so keep reading our official web site and following us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

For me, this has been a 6-year adventure that finally became reality 18 months ago when NBC bought the project. And it's been an amazing ride! It's impossible for me to thank by name the more than two hundred people who have worked together week after week to bring you 22 episodes of The Event, but I do want to express my gratitude.

I do want to thank every member of our crew, who worked tirelessly day after day, many days on location: from the construction team creating sets overnight to hair/makeup keeping continuity in our actors' looks, to grips, camera operators, productions assistants, editors, mixers, drivers, special effects and digital effects teams, stunt crew, catering, accounting, props, costumes, casting, and many others in between - including all the department heads who helped make our production team the efficient, well-oiled machine it was. A special thank you to our line producer Steve Sassen, who supervised it all, made our production run smoothly and clearly doesn't know the meaning of the word "impossible." Whatever crazy scenes we threw at him (a passenger plane crashes in the desert!), Steve always figured out creative ways to make our ideas happen - on budget and always with a smile.

Thanks to our hard-working writers' assistants, including Brian Beal and Adam DaSilva who also co-edited our official site and contributed heavily to our digital presence. And speaking of digital, NBC.com has been with us in the trenches since before the pilot was even shot. They've done amazing things for the show and they've been fantastic to work with.

Thank you to our tireless writing staff - an incredibly talented team that I will miss seeing every day - with our executive producer and showrunner Evan Katz at the helm, whose vision was instrumental in cementing the direction of the show.

Thanks to the entire NBC/Universal team that helped get the show on the air and supported us through the past year.

I cannot thank enough our amazingly talented cast who all poured their hearts and souls into the show and brought to life the characters that had only existed in my head for so long: Jason Ritter, Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Taylor Cole, Scott Patterson, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Clifton Collins Jr., Zeljko Ivanek and Blair Underwood. It's been a real privilege working with so many talented and easy-going professionals.

We had terrific guest directors (including our own Jim Wong) during the season, but I owe many thanks to our Executive Producer/Director Jeffrey Reiner. Jeffrey directed several episodes over the past year -- but he also directed the pilot and established the look and feel of the show. Jeffrey is a storyteller at heart and working with him has taught me so much.

Finally, I want to thank our Executive Producer Steve Stark. Steve has been there since I wrote the original version of the pilot six years ago, and he never stopped believing in the project -- which finally paid off when NBC bought the pilot in October 2009. The show wouldn't and couldn't have happened without him. He's a great friend who helped me keep my sanity during the craziness of production and I look forward to working with him again.

Thank you to everyone else who helped in one way or another and made this incredible dream of mine become a reality.

But most importantly, thank YOU, the devoted fans who tuned in week after week, interacted with us online, supported us before the pilot even aired, shared your questions and frustrations and excitement and theories. You made this possible. Thanks for watching!

Until next time,
Nick Wauters

So make sure you tune in Monday 9/8c on NBC for the season 1 finale of The Event.

As a treat, here are a few behind the scenes photos from the past few episodes...

From Episode 117 (Cut Off The Head) - I ventured onto our stage to explore what was left of Dempsey's chateau after we burned it down. A great sequence that involved interiors shot on our soundstage and exteriors shot at the Greystoke Castle in Los Angeles (passing for France). Most of the fire in the scene is real, although digital effects were used to enhance the look and add more smoke. We wanted our hero moment - Sean carrying Vicky out of the burning chateau - to look as real as possible, but for some reason the owners of the Greystoke castle wouldn't let us burn their place down. Our special effects supervisor Gary d'Amico decided to build a replica of the chateau's façade, which was then placed in front of the real thing. And voila, ready to light it on fire. The sequence looked great and is a perfect example of the synergy between various departments - production designer Stuart Blatt, special effects supervisor Gary d'Amico, stunt supervisor Tim Gilbert and visual effects supervisor Victor Scalise from Stargate (our go-to digital fx company) all working together to create a visually stunning scene - and keeping our actors safe!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. And happy Spring! It's been pouring rain here in L.A. for the past three days. And I'm talking about a real storm. Can you believe that exactly a year ago, we were shooting the pilot for The Event. So much has happened in a year! But anyway, let's focus on today -- and tonight! Episode 14 is called "A Message Back" and said message is going to change everything for Sophia and her people. Meanwhile, Sean forces Vicky to join him in his quest to stop Dempsey (Hal Holbrook). But first, they'll have to find the mysterious old man. And the only person who might be able to point them in the right direction is Vice President Jarvis.

And today, I also have a little bonus for you guys. Music is an important part of our show. It helps enhance and set up the mood, and definitely contributes to the cinematic feel that we strive for. So I asked our composer Scott Starrett to tell us a little bit about what he does and what exactly goes into being a composer on a show like ours.

Below, you'll find behind the scenes photos from tonight's episode, as well as photos from our score recording session. Don't forget to watch the show, tonight 9/8c on NBC!

Scott Starrett about scoring music for The Event:

My scoring process is about an 11 day cycle for each episode:

Day 1: I screen the cut in a "spotting session" with the editor and the producer(s) to determine where music should go, what emotions need to be highlighted, what kind of music would be appropriate.

Days 1-6: I compose the bulk of the music in my own studio. I use Logic, a couple Macs, and a bunch of sample libraries to create the music for the show. Some of the more important scenes will get recorded with a live orchestra later in the week, but I still create an electronic version on my computer for review with producer(s) before we record.

Days 6-8: I review the score with the producer(s) and make revisions based on any notes they have.

Day 8: we record the score with a live orchestra at The Bridge Recording in Glendale. I conceived the score to The Event to be very cinematic, so we are fortunate to be able to employ an orchestra for the recording each week. Also on Day 8 is the spotting session for the next episode.

Day 9-10: I review/edit mixes with the scoring engineer/mixer and prepare the delivery.

Day 11: I deliver the score to the dub stage for final placement in the show.

It all happens at a fast pace, but it's a real dream job to score the music for this series, since it's the type of TV show I would watch anyway and style of music that I love to write.

un-sexy. Then you get a day that makes it all worth it - an EXPLOSION,
STUNTS, HELICOPTERS. And that's what we got last Friday.

We had the pleasure of watching not one, but two buses
blow up. We shot a little behind the scenes film about our Special
Effects Producer, Gary D'Amico, his talented department, and the
preparation that they put into making that dramatic moment of fire,
shockwave, and debris.

As Gary put it, "It's like having a very temperamental actor and then asking him to get it right with only one take."

But
at 11:30pm, after many hours of rigging, testing, taping, and
trouble-shooting, the bus blew up perfectly as planned, only a hundred
yards from us.

Attached are some photos from the shoot. Keep your eyes open for the
film in the next month. And mark your calendars for March 7th at 8:00pm
when we return with our 2-hour special!

Keep watching,
Adam & Brian

... we will return! I know it's been a while since my last post, but it's because we've been really busy here at The Event. But we're finally getting a break for the holidays.

What a year 2010 has been! Personally, I was lucky enough to get a pilot made and picked up to series -- and then to have everyone at NBC believe in it so much. Then to have it become a hit show with such a fantastic and devoted fan base. I can't tell you how amazing it's been. And yes, surreal -- the word I I've been overusing and will actually use to qualify 2010. Thanks again to everyone at NBC, to our incredibly talented cast and crew, and especially to you, the fans. Thank you for your devotion! We do this for you. Over 200 people put countless hours of hard work this past year, working day in and day out to produce this show for you and to keep you entertained.

As you know, The Event is taking a break off the air for the next few weeks (we are scheduled to return on Monday February 28th with an eventful night and two episodes back to back before returning to our normal schedule), but we are already deep into production on the second half of our season. Episodes 111 and 112 are in the can, 113 and 114 are being written, and 115 is being broken. And we have some really cool thing in store for you, if I can say so myself.

But we understand that Feb. 28th feels like a long time from now, and we don't want you to go through "Event withdrawal." So first, a few exciting announcements about the show. First, casting! Virginia Madsen will be joining us a Senator Catherine Lewis who might get into Martinez's way in an unexpected way. I'm talking about additional scenes, deleted scenes, Q&A's, recaps... I'll be taking you on a tour of Stargate, our visual FX house, where we'll go over several key scenes and show you how we (well, how "they") made it happen. And we even have some webisodes in the pipeline. So, stay tuned and keep checking our site for updates because we have tons of awesome content for you.

And with this I conclude my last post of 2010. See you all on the other side. Below are a few photos I thought you'd enjoy... Special thanks to everyone who has contributed photos to this blog.

Behind the scenes on episodes 111/112...

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving (or simply a great weekend if you are one of our international viewers). Everyone here is back and working hard on our next batch of episodes. Today, our awesome Exec. Producer Jeffrey Reiner once again gets behind the camera to direct start principal photography on episodes 111 and 112, which are scheduled to air back to back when we return on February 28th. Meanwhile, in the writers' room, we are writing 113 and breaking Episode 114 and looking ahead at the rest of the season.

This week's episode is entitled "Everything Will Change" and it's our fall finale - so expect some major reveals and major twists! President Martinez will have to step away from the alien-related issues he's been dealing with since the our first episode in order to handle a "good old human crisis." But of course, nothing is ever what it seems...Sophia and Simon are on to Thomas and trying to figure out what secret plan he and Isabel have engineered. Sean and Leila are getting closer and closer to Samantha -- and to finding out how Leila and her sister fit into Dempsey's plan. Some questions are better left unanswered...and Leila is about to find out the hard way.

I hope you enjoy tonight's episode. And I know February 28th seems like a very long wait, but we will make it worth your while. And fear not, we will have plenty of online content to satisfy your Event cravings until then -- including more behind the scenes, deleted scenes...and well... more. Keep checking back for more announcementa. =) If you aren't yet, follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook.

And now, here are a few behind the scenes photos...

- Nick
